COLOMBO STREET OVERBRIDGE
Sir, Why should we have this expression of civic and railway insanity? Why not have one man who knows railway economics set aside to make a total survey of our regional railway section. Then a number of individuals in and outside the railway service could give evidence. If Spain can run trains one-quarter the weight and onethird the cost, why can’t we? Labrador can work marvels on roller bearings? Even in Christchurch a man has a patent which could knock the stuffing out of our dead trucks. The dead trucks unload 27 times a year. Even something better than railway sidings is now known. Why build a railway bridge, to get a good view of a railway stystem which is completely out of date? Why?—Yours, etc., L. C. WALKER.
