HORORATA FLOWER SHOW
GOOD ENTRIES IN ALL CLASSES Considering the wet weather which had preceded the show, entries were good in all classes at the Hororata Horticultural Society’s summer show on Saturday. The society’s challenge cup for the most points in the show was won by Mrs Ray Oliver, and Mr and Mrs G. H. Grigg’s challenge cup for the most points in the home industries section was won by Mrs P. Derrett. Other awards were as follows: Cut flowers (judged by Mr J. Wattling): Mr A. Nimmo, 10 firsts, 5 seconds, and special award; Mrs G. H. Grigg, 7 firsts, 4 seconds; Mrs Ray Oliver, 4 firsts, 2 seconds. ’ Decorative (judged by Mrs J.Wattling): Miss M. Hockridge, 2 firsts, 5 seconds, and special award; Mrs D. M. Patterson, 5 firsts. ,
Fruit and vegetables (judged by Mr James Deans): Mr W. Dean, 4 firsts, 5 seconds, and special award; Mrs G. H. Grigg, 7 firsts, 3 seconds; Graham Oakley, 4 firsts. 2 seconds. Home industries (judged by Mrs G. Murdoch): Mrs P. Derrett, 5 firsts, 7 seconds, and special award; Mrs Ray Oliver, 7 firsts, 5 seconds. Fancywork and knitting (judged by Mrs A. Stott): Miss E. Spriggs, 6 firsts, 4 seconds, and special award; Mrs Ray Oliver, 2 firsts', 3 seconds.
Photography (judged by Mr J. W. D. Hall): Mr H. T. Grigg, 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and special award; Mr David Stone, 2 firsts, 1 second; Mr G. Mitchell, 2 firsts, 1 second. Special prizes for most points: Dahlias, Mrs C. Green; potatoes, Graham Oakley; rich fruit cake, Mrs P. Derrett; children’s section, Gaynor Hunt. Children’s collection of vegetables: Over 10, Graham Oakley; under 10, Gavin Stockdale.
