STOCK EXCHANGES markets retain their BUOYANCY The buoyancy o£ markets in the Christchurch Stock Exchange was undisturbed in • fairly heavy trading yesterday. Most stocks were active and firm, with some attention being paid to local body debentures. Of the 15 share issues traded two showed minor falls, four recorded gains, and the balance were sold at unchanged prices. G. J.* Coles, which a week ago sold for 14s lOd on a falling market, were active at 15s 3d on a firm market influenced, no doubt, by the recent news of the offer for Foy and Gibson’s capital. This offer, if accepted, will involve a new issue by Coles. At the close of yesterday’s call there were further sellers at 15s 3d—buyers Id away. Woolworths, Ltd., were moderately busy with sales and buyers at the firm price of 14s Bd. McKenzies had buying support at 21s, but sellers who were prepared to accept this price on Monday were off the market. Hay’s preferences advanced further to business and sellers at 22s 6d, with more wanted at 22s 3d. The market for NaA? ank . °* Australasia fully paid ht ™^ to sa l es and buyers at 5s 4d. bank’s contributing rights were Yj l7 / ? rm ’ with sales and buyers at 3s id, late sellers holding for 3s 2d. Not much interest was evinced in other banking issues. Among the breweries, offers for Ballins were fractionally higher at 28s 4d. but sellers held for 295, and a buyer appeared for the preferences at 20s 9d—sellers 9d away. Dominions rose fairly sharply to business at 90s, with late buyers offering 89s 6d on a market bare of sellers. New Zealands sold unchanged at 48s 7d, but at the close there were unsupported sellers at 48s 9d. Other brewery issues were not wanted. Frozen meats, gas, insurances, loans and woollens all had excellent buying, support, but not many sellers were in evidence. DOMINION TRANSACTIONS CHRISTCHURCH
