Cold Spell Grips Britain
(Rec. 11.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 22.
The Weather Bureau today forecast that temperatures would be the highest for several days, but that there would be no real break in the great freeze gripping Britain. Planes are again standing by in the north of Scotland to fly food, fodder and medical supplies to 5000 Highlanders stranded in remote villages and isolated farms.
Motoring organisations warned motorists that London is ringed by treacherous roads after a freeze last night. A spokesman said drivers in some places would have to use “tank technique” on roads where the partly - thawed slush had been frozen again into ridges and ruts.
