NEW WEAPON FOR N.Z. ARMY.—Britain’s latest weapon, the Sterling sub-machine gun. The New Zealand Government is negotiating with the manufacturers for 2000 of these guns at a cost of about £50,000. The lower photograph shows a sea cadet trying out the weapon at the first public demonstration at Dagenham, Essex, last week. The Sterling sub-machine gun weighs only 61b and fires up to 575 rounds a minute. It may be fired from the hip, shoulder, or pistol fashion in an emergency.
