WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FEDERATED FARMERS
Wccarton.—Mrs H. E. Hamilton presided at ths February meeting ot the Riccarton branch of Wwnen'i Division of Federated Farmers. Two new members were welcomed. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr I. L. M. Coop on the passing of her husband. It was announced that the annual picnic of the branch would be held at Diamond Harbour on February 3, and that members would attend the interprovincial conference to be held at Rangiora in March. Mrs S. Townsend presided for the debate “Should Married’ Women Work?” Competition winners were Mesdames R. A. Ambridge, B. Coe, Chambers, Kirkwood, Joseph, Arthur Johnston, Smee, and MisS Walker. Dunsandel.—lt was announced at the January meeting of the Dunsandel branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers that the sum of £l2 8s 8d was raised at.the November floral display. Mrs W. R. Hope presided. A demonstration on a knitting machine was given by Mrs L Mussen. It was agreed to hold a combined picnic with the Spreydon branch in the Dunsandel domain. Competitions resulted:—Large bloom: Mrs J. Ar Mackie 1, Mrs W. R. Hope 2. Mrs E. G. Wright and Mrs W. P. Chatterton (equal) 3, Large cluster: Mrs Wright 1, Mrs W. F. Bishop 2. Small bloom: Mrs Bishop 1, Mrs Mach.e 2, Mrs W. J. Balloch 3. Small cluster: Mrs Mackie 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs Balloch 3. Decorated potato: Mrs Bishop 1, Mrs Hope 2, Mrs H. G. Cain 3. Handwork (prettiest handkerchief): Mrs Mackie 1, Mrs Hope 2, Mrs Wright 3. Cooking (shortbread): Mrs Bishop 1, Mrs Cain 2, Mrs Wright 3. Preserves (raspberry jam): Mrs Bishop. Shrubs: Mrs Wright 1, Mrs Hope 2. Papanui-Waimalri.—Mrs S. F. Marshall presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimairi-Papanui branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. Mrs N. W. Gale judged the entries for the flower and vegetable display. Prises were awarded to Mesdames G. Nicholls, Shields, Harris, Goodall, Rogers, R. Nicholls, Smith, McKee, Struthers, Carpinter, Marshall, Ferrall, and Miss Allan. The proceeds will be forwarded to the provincial building fund. Mrs Gale gave hints on how to preserve flowers and floral decorations. Plans were made to hold the annual picnic at Ashburton on February-16. Harewood West.—Officers were elected as follows at the inaugural meeting of'the Harewood West branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers: —President. Mrs H. Broadhurst; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. Reynolds and H. Shipley; secretary, Mrs W. Nun week; treasurer, Mrs H.. Pickles; advisory members, Mrs Broadhurst and Mrs D. McConnel; committee, Mesdames Hurst, Kensington, Barker and Wakelin; delegates to provincial meeting, the , president, secretary, two vice-presi-dents, and two committee members. Mrs Stott and Mrs M. E. Orchard spoke on the aims and objects of the movement. The first meting of the branch will be held in March. Glenroy.—Miss Phillips presided at the February meeting of the Glenroy branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A report was given on the plans for a memorial to the founders of the movement. The schedule for the group display to be held at Hororata was discussed. Mrs Evan* demonstrated tne making of mops out of old knitted woollen articles. The hostesses were Mrs and Miss Davies. Competitions resulted:— Lettuce: Mrs Marsh 1, Miss C. Phillips 2. Flowers—large bloom: Mrs Pearce 1, Miss Dennis 2. Mrs Marsh 3. Small bloom: Mrs Collison 1, Mrs Hunt 2, Mrs Dennis 3. Cluster: Mrs Hunt 1, Mrs Collison 2, Phillips 3. A large collection of aritcles for the Red. Cross Society was handed in. The sales tattle was quickly sold out.
