GARRISON ON TACHENS
“DEFENCE AT ANY COST ” (Rec. 11 p.m.) TAIPEH, Feb. 4. A Chinese Nationalist Defence Ministry spokesman declared today that Marshal Chiang Kai-shek’s 20,000 men in the garrison in the Tachens would defend their positions “at any cost.” He gave a special press conference this morning to announce the Nationalist intention, which he said would be undertaken regardless of any reported evacuation or redeployment.
