SANDERS CUP CRAFT

COMPETITION FOR NEW DESIGN

(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, February 4. The development of a modernised version of the present class, embodying in modified form the best points, but eliminating the undesirable characteristics brought about by the present class restrictions—that is the problem for entrants in a yacht designing competition which was approved at this years Sanders Cup conference in Dunedin. A report submitted to the conference by a special sub-committee says that extreme features of design are not desired, as it is hoped that boats of this class will be used for day sailing as well as class racing. It is proposed that the new design will be much more closely restricted than formerly, but with limited tolerances to encourage amateur building. Such tolerances, however, will not be permitted to alter the basic shape.
