WAIMAIRI SCRUB FIRES

Sir, —The recent fires in the Waimairi area emphasise that there are no formed roads to act as fire-breaks. If the county council would form Ballance and Richardson streets, and finish Larnach street, which in its present state, is a constant menace to the Education Board plantation and the residents alike, the danger would be lessened, as most of the fires have had their origin near the beach north of Beach road. —Yours, etc., RESIDENT RATEPAYER.
