RACIAL SEGREGATION IN SOUTH AFRICA.—The South African Minister of Native Affairs has given a resettlement board power to remove forcibly about 60,000 Africans and other coloured persons from the western areas of Johannesburg. The good and the bad will be destroyed when the coloured population is shifted to a new settlement well away from the city. The mass evacuation is due to begin next month. TOP: An African doctor’s house in the area to be demolished first. It borders the white suburb of Westdene. BOTTOM: Slum dwellings in Sophiatown.
