MR R. w. G. EMERY FOR AUCKLAND
SUPERINTENDENT OF NORTHERN REGION
A well-known Civil Aviation Administration officer, Mr R. W. G. Emery, who has been regional superintendent and airport manager at Christchurch since 1952, has been appointed regional
superintendent of the C.A.A. northern region. His headquarters will be at Auckland, and he expects to leave Christchurch next month. Mr Emery, who flew Hurricane night fighters in England during the Second World War came to Christchurch in 1947, when he was posted to the Royal New Zealand Air Force station, Wigram, as officer in charge of the southern air traffic control centre with the rank of squadron leader. When the air traffic control centre was transferred to Harewood early in 1948 under the jurisdiction of the Civil Aviation Branch of the Air Department, Mr Emery was appointed area controller and acting airport manager. In 1952 he was appointed regional superintendent and airport manager. As a cricketer Mr Emery is more widely known. He was in the Auckland Brabin Cup team for four years, and represented Auckland from 1936 until the outbreak of war, and again in 1946. When he came to Christchurch he joined the West Christchurch Club. He represented Canterbury jn Plunket Shield matches for four seasons from the 1950-51 season. In 1952 he played for New Zealand in two test matches against the visiting West Indies team.
