Play reached a high standard during the fnen’s and open championships of the national croquet tournament, Which was continued today. •c.* Rowling (Nelson) played extreme!v well against C. Paynter (England) in the first round of the men’s event. Rowling gave Paynter little chance to score in the first game, and again struck form in the second game. After making a break four back with his first ball, Rowling completed a perfect triple peel with his second ball. L. H. Buchanan (Hastings), in his first game against Mrs L. Brown (Wanganui/, also completed a triple peel, Mrs Brown having only one shot in the game. Today’s results were:— Open Championship First Round.—Mrs E. Tingey (New Plymouth) beat Mrs J. Danes (Pukekohe). 26-18. 26-23; L. H, Buchanan (Hastings) beat Mrs L. Brown (Wanganui). 26-0, 2126, 26-15; Miss I. Wainwright (Hamilton) beat Mrs G. Molloy (Opotiki), 26-24, 26-17. Women’s Championship • Second Round.—Mrs J. Fielding (Paeroa) beat Mrs R. Moffitt (Auckland), 26-7, 26-4. Men’s Championship First Round.—C. A. Watkins (Hastings) beat T. Regan (Wellington), 26-6, 26-6; G. Rowling (Nelson) beat C. Paynter (England), 26-3, 26-1. Championship Doubles First Life.—Third round: Mesdames T. Hill (Wellington) and A. Delamere (Thames) beat W. H. Kirk and Mrs Kirk (Christchurch), 26-15. Quarter-finals.—C. Watkins and Mrs Watkins (Hastings) beat Miss M. Claughton and Mrs B. Jarden (Wellington)), 26-6; Mesdames H. Purdy (Auckland) and H. O’Connell (Gisborne) beat Mesdames H. Fenwick (Auckland) and L. Middlemis.* (Pukepohe), 26-4. Second Life.—Second round: Mesdamea S. Morgan (Eltham) and L. Thrush (Hawera) beat Mesdames A.
