TWO WINS FOR TWINKLE YESTERDAY

Making the most of the light conditions prevailing on the Waimakariri river at Stewart's Gully yesterday. Tauranga (R. Denniston) won the second and third races in the Tauranga Cup series. On Wednesday, Tauranga was second in the first race of the series. Point Chevalier (G. Matthews), who won Wednesday’s race, was second to Tauranga in the second race sailed yesterday morning, but in the afternoon could only make seventh place. Until the last lap of the third race yesterday afternoon, conditions on the river were again very light. Towards the end of this race, however, a strong northwesterly wind replaced the light easterly which had been blowing throughout the day. The second race was Of four laps sailed over a triangular course, and the third race, of three laps, over a windward and leeward course. In both races, Tauranga took the lead early and held it throughout. Denniston has been particularly successful in both the Tanner Cup and Tauranga Cup races. In the Tanner Cup series he won four of the five races and after winning the fifth race was disqualified. So far in the Tauranga Cup series he has won two races and gained a second in the third race.
