WOMAN DIES IN TAXI

A woman who was returning to Hanmer Springs from Christchurch in a taxi yesterday was found to be dead on arrival there. She was Mrs Lucy Gray, aged 45, a widow. Mrs Gray, who had been a patient jn the Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer Springs, for about three weeks, came to Christchurch on Wednesday on business. She stayed the night in her flat in Hereford street. Early yesterday morning she felt that she should return to Hanmer Springs quickly, and the taxi was hired. The taxi, driven by a woman, left Christchurch about 6 a.m., Mrs Gray being in the back seat. When the taxi arrived at the Queen Mary Hospital it was found that Mrs Gray was dead. An inquest will be held.
