MAGISTRATE SUGGESTS INQUIRY fNew Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 6. When the hearing ‘of evidence in the murder charge against Senga Florence Whittingham was resumed in the Magistrate's Court at ?.2O p.m. today, the Magistrate (Mr J. D. Willis. S.M.) said that, rightly or wrongly, it had been reported to him by the ’ representative of a Sydney newspaper that a rival newspaper had published tvhat purported to be a statement by Whittingham.
If that was so, said the Magistrate, someone was liable for contempt of Court. ’ The Magistrate directed The Crown Prosecutor (Mr H. S. Adams) to bring the matter to the attention of the Soli-citor-General who, he said, would no doubt investigate it further. If no’ such statement had appeared, no harm was done, but if that had been done, someone would be called upon to explain 4t, said the Magistrate.
