CENTENARTAN’S BIRTHDAY
MR HOLLAND VISITS AUCKLAND MAN
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 7. J- Woods, of Ponsonbv. who was 100 today, was visited by the Prime Minister (Mr Holland). Mr Woods and Mr Holland chatted and were photographed together, and the Prime Minister proposed the centenarian’s health.
w M °?* e than 60 telegrams which Mr Woods received from many parts of the world included a message from the Queen’s secretary, from the Governor-General (Sir Willoughby Norrie) and Lady Norrie, and from Mr Holland.
Proposing Mj Woods’s health, Mr Holland said it was inspiring to those who had to carry so many burdens through life to see a man of 100 who had not so many worries. “There is only one regret,” the Prime Minister said, “and that is that he has lived 100 years and never seen Christchurch.”
