French Lawyers May Fight Duel
(Rec. 10 p.m.) PARIS, November 5. Two French lawyers, one a former fencing champion today allegedly challenged each other to a duel after exchanging punches in the Central Law Courts in Paris. They are Mr Pierre de Perpezac, who is representing Andre Baranes, a key witness in a defence secrets "leakage" case, and Mr Jean Baptiste Biaggl, who represents one of the accused, Roger Labrusse.
The brief exchange of blows fol. lowed an encounter between them in the law court corridors this afternoon. The president of the Bar (Mr Marcel Heraud) is trying to patch up the quarrel. Duelling is illegal in France and Solice usually arrive on the “field of onour” at the same time as the duellists. (It has been suspected in the past that the police have been called by the person who suspected he might lose.)
