EQUIPMENT TAKEN FROM CAR
CRITICISM BY POLICE
INSPECTOR
LOOTING FOLLOWS NIGHT
, ACCIDENT . (From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, November 5. The looting of almost every removable part from a motor-car involved in a recent early morning accident in the Runanga district, was strongly criticised by the Inspector of Police at Greymouth, Mr A. Johnson. Inspector Johnson said it was very much of a case of kicking a man when he was down. The car had been stripped between the time of the accident—about midnight—and 9.30 a.m.. The car’s owner, a visitor from Christchurch, had been taken to hospital with injuries. The loss of the articles, of a total value of £52, was not covered by insurance, he said. Among the items taken were two wheel spat covers, an air control fitting, two chromium hub caps, the whole of the back seat, a seat-squab, a chromium emblem from the bonnet, an electric cigarette lighter, an ash tray, gear lever knob, the inside lining of a door, a fog light, a wheel spinner, a spare tyre and wheel, and two new seal-beam conversion headlight units. A few days after the mishap one or two minor items had been thrown bn to the lawn of the Runanga home at which the motorist had been staying, and one or two other items had been recovered, said Inspector Johnson.
