POST-PRIMARY TEACHERS
Training Division In Christchurch EXPANSION APPROVED Expansion of the post-primary division opened this year at the Christchurch Teachers’ College has been approved by the Education Departjnent, and by 1956 it will cater for training in all fields of post-primary education. This year, the 59 original graduate students are completing their training in languages and social studies, and a few in commercial teaching. Next year they will take up permanent teaching positions in many parts of New Zealand. For next year, more than 80 students will be accepted, and besides the subjects mentioned, music and mathematics will be taught, and the division will accept all students in physical education. To meet these requirements, a lecturer in mathematics and science and another in physical education Will be appointed. When the division is fully developed in 1956, Christchurch and Auckland will offer similar general courses, but Christchurch will take all the physical education trainees for New Zealand, and Auckland all those in fine arts.
An immediate requirement through the transfer next year of physical education training to Christchurch will be a gymnasium, and application hat-been made for a new building.
