NOVELTY SUITS BY LONDON DESIGNER

SUMMER FROCKS BY TAFFS, OF SYDNEY Biggest fashion news for many months was the arrival in Christchurch yesterday of a unique collection of tailored novelty suits by Rebere, of Mayfair, London. Rebere is one of the big names in exclusive fashion circles in London; and the genius that sets him apart can be seen in the cut, style and finish of these suits he has designed. They are in novelty styles and they are graceful and smart—not gaudy with different colours giving that once-seen-never-forgotten appearance —but quiet, in single neutral shades, with an obvious look, somehow, of good breeding about them. Rebere describes their shades as ironstone, oatmeal, ash-grey and junior navy. Some time ago it was reported that London designers had experienced a poor season because of the wet summer in Britain and, consequently, rather than sell at reduced prices and spoil their prestige at Home, were making their exclusive models available to the Dominions at a fraction of what they would sell at in London.

Through one ■of their exclusive sources, Anthony Andersen, Ltd., the centre for exclusive wear for women, at 81 Cashel street (near the Bridge of Remembrance), have secured these suits by Rebere. of Mayfair, and they will be on display from this morning. They are in light-weight, summer alpacca; and fittings are from S.S.W. to W.X. (The firm of Anthony Andersen. Ltd., points out, however, that none of these fittings may be available for very long because* these suits will sell very quickly.) Some of the suits have two skirts—one tailored with an inverted pleat at the back and a second skirt with inverse sunray pleating. The suits with only one skirt are to be sold, from this morning, at £9 19s 6d, and those with the two skirts at £l3 ss. Summer Frocks Another item of fashion news of considerable importance yesterday was the arrival at Anthonv Andersen, Ltd. of a selection of exclusive summer frocks by Taffs, of Sydney. Hardly any fashion-conscious New Zealand woman visits Aus*raia without trying to bring back at least one frock by Taffs, of Sydney, and now a limited but comprehensive selection has been obtained for Christchurch. These frocks are in' attractive, plain shades of crease-resisting “Sundex” linen, in a number of different styles -—typical of the styles that make Australian summer frocks renowned for their smartness and chic. Some are trimmed with Gupure lace and others have fashionable drawn-thread embroidery. Fittings for the frocks are from SB.W. to W. —Advt.
