AGENT PLEASE A fast-run seven furlongs by Dorman and Ocean Spray II at Riccarton yesterday showed that these two North Island stayers are at the peak of fitness,for toe New Zealand Cup tomorrow. They galloped on the plough, the track most popular with trainers. . Also on the plough. Programme and Lad Agent, two other North Island-trained cup candidates, ended a . run over a mile and a quarter by sprinting home . fast, and two Derby candidates, Privy Council and Gold Ember, attractively galloped five furlongs. The outside of the course proper was also available. Both tracks gave firm footing and hard going. Dormant (C T. Wilson)’ was galloping keenly alongside Ocean Spray II (W. D. Skelton) ending seven furlongs in Imin 29 l-ssec. They rounded off an attractive trial by recording 50 2-ssec for the last half-mile, and 37 3-ssec for the final three furlongs. Ocean Spray also did his work well. Programme (G. W. Mein) and Land Agent (I. Noanoa) started from the mile and a quarter, buttheir pace was leisurely until they went about six furlongs. They sprinted the last half-mile briskly in 49 2-5 sec, and the concluding three furlongs in 35 4-ssec. The time for the mile and a quarter was 3min 15 l-ssec. Fulgent (A. J. Stokes) drew up to finish alongside Pack Drill (E. G. Low) in their run from the mile. They recorded imin 49 l-ssec for the distance, and 50 4-ssec for the last half-mile.

Glenkay (K. R. Belsham) and a Derby candidate, Magic Carpet (C. McDonald), started from the mile and were joined after two furlongs by Knock On (N. Cowles). Glenkay, which had been trailing, galloped fast from the furlong, and won the trial by two lengths going away. She ran the mile in imin 48 4-ssec, and the last half in 50 4-ssec. Magic Carpet was four lengths clear of Knock On at the end. He is not a good track galloper. Highland Lassie (F. H. Skelton) drew out to beat Gold Peril (T. H. Barnsley) by three lengths in their run over a mile and a quarter. Highland Lassie ran the distance in 2min 14 4-ssec, and the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec.

The Hob’s Trial The Hob (R. J. Skelton), though-allowed to ease near the post, recorded Imin 44 4-5 sec for his mile, and 52 4-ssec for the last half. He is in excellent condition, and could lend interest in the cup finish. The Lum (R. J. Skelton) was going at a good pace from the start of her mile trial, but could have bettered her time of Imin 45 4-ssec for the distance, 53 l-ssec for the last half-mile, and 39 2-ssec for the concluding three furlongs. Ngapunawal (C. T. Wilson), Passchenedaele (R. W. Gould), and Sheriff (C. McDonald) finished seven furlongs in that order with gaps of two and three lengths separating them. IfSapunawai recorded Imin 30 4-ssec for the distance, and 52 4-5 sec for the last half-mile. The Invercargill-trained Marjo (A. L Powell) and Honest John (S. A. Waddell), a Woodville candidate for the New Zealand Derby, ended nine furlongs on terms in Imin 56 4-ssec. They recorded 51 3-5 sec for the last half-mile, and 38 4-ssec for the concluding three furlongs. Royal Tryst (W. J. Broughton) and Gold Trend (L. J. Ellis) ended six furlongs on terms in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last three in 39sec. Royal Tryst is a three-year-old son of Royal Chief and the 1940 New Zealand Cup winner Serenata, and is a member of W. J. Bromby’s Trentham team. He is a likely -type. Bosky (R. E. Johnstone) beat Dehominate (A. J. from the six furlongs by half a length in Imin 18 3-ssec. The last half took 52 2-ssec. Braze (D. J. This toll) jumped away from the five furlongs two lengths clear of Sublime (W. J. Broughton). He ended the trial, galloping smoothly, a neck in front of his stablemate, which had the outside running. The five furlongs took Imin 3 4-ssec, and the last half mile 50 2-ssec.

Privy Council (W. J. Broughton) sprinted five furlongs attractively with Gold Ember (T. H. Barnsley) in the smart time of Imin 1 3-ssec. They covered the last half mile in 48 l-ssec.

Gold Ember was behind his companion at the finish, but was hampered by another horse on the track in front of him inside the last furlong. Seven Seas (W. F. Ellis) and Lumphanan (A. Balloch) recorded 39 l-ssec for three furlongs. It was an attractive effort, because they were some distance part the threb-furlong post, before being hurried along.

Sir Galahad (E. G. Low) made a good impression in beating his stablemate Detroit (R. W. Gould) by half a length over six furlongs in Imin 17 3-ssec, the last half mile in 51sec. Declare (A. J. Stokes) and Poetical (T. Carbin) sped home from the six furlongs in Imin 16 2-ssec. They took 51sec for the last half mile and 37 2-3 sec for the final three furlongs. These two are fit candidates for the Riccarton Handicap, Sir William (L. J. EUls) led HarlestOn (W. J. Broughton) by a length after running seven furlongs in Imin 32 2-ssec, the last half mile in 52 3-ssec. G. R. Peking’s pair, Americus (D. J. Thistoll) and Demand (B. S. He does little fast work, but is fit to make a fresh start in the Stewards* Handicap. Chat-Tea (B. Gordon) ran from the half mile in 50 4-ssec, and recorded 38 4-ssec for the last three furlongs. His stablemate. Cant Fault, was sprinted down the straight. Melinda Jane (D.J. Thistoll), a Riccar-ton-trained light-weight in the Stewards* Handicap, dashed over five furlongs in Imin 2 3-ssec, the last half mile in 50sec, and the final three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. Port Boy (A. J. Stokes) was shading Leprechaun (N. Eastwood) ending seven furlongs In Imin 31 4-ssec, the last half 3 die in 51 2-ssec. Port Boy is a fit Washyke candidate for the New Zealand Derby. Escalade (J. W. McDonald) was running on and shading his stablemates Alb (K. Cotton) and Jolly Miller (B. Gordon) ending six furldngs in Imin 17 4-ssec, the last half mile in 51sec. On Course Proper

Three Step (I. Noanoa), a North Island candidate for the New Zealand Derby, was one of the first horses to appear on the course proper. He galloped a mile in Imin 48 4-ssec, increasing speed to record 51sec for the last half. Idaho (K. Nuttall) had Maire for a companion over a mile. They were not hurried, and finished on terms in Imin 50 4-ssec, the last half in. 54 2-ssec. The Canterbury Cup “winner is in great heart for his attempt to win the New Zealand Cup. Fleur (W. Harilin) was half a length in front of Eulyth (C. T. Wilson), with Ocean Lore (K. Nuttall) at tpe real®, ending a mile in Imin 47 4-ssec, the last half in 53sec.

Pleasure Bent (G. W. Mein) and Josudi, two Cup light-weights, ended a mile on terms in Imin 47 4-ssec. They quickened speed to record 52 3-ssec for the last half mile.

Field Chief (Ju D. Pankhurst) and Lady Wanaka (B. J. Anderton) were dear/ of Reformed (J. Didham), after running a mile in Imin 47 4-ssec. Field Chief was not shaken up to run his last half mile in 54 2-ssec. He made a better impression than A. J. Brown’s pair. Kingship (G. Lee) beat Tjnro (A. J. Stokes) by a length and a half in their mile trial. The ; pace was strong from the start. Kingship recorded 49 3-ssec for the first half rtifle, and Imin 43sec for the mile. Solstice (B. McDonald) ran home from the mile in Imin 45 2-ssec. He galloped strongly early, but took 53 4-ssec for the last half mile. Clancy (W. Hanlin) and Gulliver (W. D. Skelton) were keen to Increase their speed in their run from the mile. They finished on terms in Imin 50sec, and increased speed to run the last half mile in 52 3-ssec. Gulliver is a very fit Derby candidate. Macduff (N. Eastwood) .trailed Royal Invader (D. Finnie) and Instinctive (F. H. Skelton) from the mile to the straight, then ran, past them strongly, and was first home by two lengths in Imin 46 l-ssec. The last half mile was covered in 52sec. It was a smart trial by Macduff. Saba (E. Shaw), a Riccarton-tralned Derby candidate, trailed his stablemate, Pat’s Treasure (R. Blair) until inside the furlong, and then drew up to win the trial comfortably by half a length. Saba ran the mUe in Imin 47 4-ssec, and the last half in 54 2-ssec.

Not Hurried Tamahere II (W. D. Skelton) and Scuppered (A. J. Stokes) were companions oyer seven furlongs, run leisurely in Imin 36sec. The pace slackened over the last bit, and the last half mile took 55 2-ssec. After trailing early. Mayonnaise (D. Finnie) drew up to finish a neck in front «*>**<»> candidate, Scotch Gift (T. H. Barnsley), fo their sprint from the six furlongs. They ran the distance in Irtin and the last half mile in 52 l-ssec. Mijiji (J. S. Crawford), another South-land-owned Stewards’ candidate, galloped half a mile boldly in, 49 2-Ssec—time equalled by Shoal (R. W. Gould), when she beat Fitter Patter (N. Bonney) by two lengths. Motueka (C McDonald) was half a length in front of Humber Hawk (I. Noanoi£) ending their half mile in 51 2-ssec. Hush Money and Copenhagen were practically on terms ending half a mile in 49 3-ssec.
