N.Z. GRASSLAND ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL MEETING AT NELSON
DR. J. R. FILMER ELECTED PRESIDENT
(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, November 4. Dr. J. R. Filmer, of Wellington, Director of the Animal Research Station Division of the Department of Agriculture, was elected president at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Grassland Association at Nelson last night. The association’s new vice-president is Dr. J. Melville, of Palmerston North, Director of the Grasslands Division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
Dr. Melville is chairman of the organising committee of the Seventh International Grassland Congress to be held at Massey Agricultural College in November, 1956. His election to the office of vice-president of the Grassland Association means that he will assume the presidency in the year of the international congress when the New Zealand association will be the host body. The New Zealand association’s meeting in 1956 is to be held in Christchurch after the international congress in Palmerston North, at which Dr. Melville will assume the temporary presidency. If the procedure at previous International Grassland Congresses is followed, he will automatically be elected to the presidency of the congress. Other officers elected at last night’s annual meeting were: immediate past president, Mr G. A. Holmes, superintendent of the Invermay Research Station, Mosgiel; secretary, Mr D. Glue, Department of Agriculture, Wellington; members of the executive committee, Mr C. J. Hamblyn, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Palmerston North, and Professor J. W. Calder, Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. The 1955 annual conference of the New Zealand Grassland Association is to be held in T'awke’s Bay, either at : Napier or Hastings, early in October.
