SWABBING OF RACEHORSES
Sir, —I notice with approval that the Auckland Racing Club has decided to introduce the swabbing of placed horses in races, to stop the doping that is taking place. As the Metropolitan Trotting Club is known for its progressive actions to protect its patrons, I would challenge it to follow suit Surely there can be no argument against the scheme, as if the horses are not being doped then no-one has anything to fear. Swabbing is merely a protection which every patron is entitled to have against the professional doper, who is operating on all our race tracks.—Yours, etc., WHY NOT?
September 30, 1954. [Commenting on this letter, the president of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club (Mr C. E. Hoy) said that he considered this was really a matter for the Trotting Conference and not for any individual club. He said, however, that the subject would be studied at the next meeting of the dub’s committee.]
