Concessions End Deadlock
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, October 3. Western statesmen will meet today to put the fishing touches to the “new deal” for European Defence. They reached "complete agreement” late last night on the scheme to rearm sovereign West Germany after five days of tough bargaining. Concessions by France and Germany broke the 24-hour deadlock on the key issue of arms control. The new pact is expected to be signed and the terms published this afternoon. The new deal provides for a West German armed force O f 500,000 men, .1350 aircraft and small naval uX under N.A.T.O. command. Britain has promised to keep four Army divisions and one tactical air force on the Continent until the end of the century.
