N.Z. HORSES WIN £5200 SATURDAY’S SUCCESSES “The Press’’ Special Service AUCKLAND, October 3. By winning £A5245 on Saturday, New Zealand racehorse owners continued their remarkable run of successes in Australia. Since the new season opened on August 1, their horses have won more than £20,300 in stakes. Auckland racing enthusiasts cannot remember New Zealand owners ever naAnng a more lucrative period on the Australian turf. They predict that the vintage year” for horses from the Dominion has scarcely begun, because most of the events in which they have been placed so far have carried comparatively modest stakes. New Zealand candidates are already hot favourites for some of Australia’s richest races, including the Caulfield ana Melbourne Cups. New Zealand owners who shared in Saturday s winnings were:— Mr L. J. Spring, a public accountant, ot Whakatane, whose gelding. Bis--3l?g Fast, won the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington (£1400). Mr J. F. Kerr, of Christchurch, ownertrainer of Surprise Ending, third m the same race (£200). -W- S. Goosman. the Minister of Works, whose gelding, Gendarme, won the George Main Stakes at Randwick (£1445). Mr A. T. Marinovic. of Wellington, owner of Tesla, which was third in the Main Stakes (£200). Mr M J- Moodabe. of Auckland, whose at’/-. was second in the A.J.C.
