Health Stamp Campaign
Mount Everest appears in the design of this year’s health stamps, the sale of which will begin today; and appropriately Sir Edmund Hillary opened the campaign in a radio address last evening. Sir Edmund Hillary, recalling that New Zealand’s first health camp was held in 1919, expressed the average man s curiosity as to where youngsters needing such special attention come from in a country which he had always regarded as a “paradise for “ children ”. His personal investigation of these circumstances, his observations of a health camp’s activities, and his analogy between financing the camps and the British Everest expedition prompted his resolution, “as one who rarely “ bought health stamps ”, to buy stocks this year. He appealed to others to do likewise. In this area, where the work of the health camps is well known, it can be expected that many new supporters will follow his example.
