WEIGHT-LIFTING RECORDS BROKEN

Tommy Kono (United States) lifted 38011 b in the two hands clean and jerk to beter the light heavy-weight record of 375J1b which T. Lcmakin, of Russia, set last year. Norbert Schemansky, another American, improved his own heavy-weight record for the two hands clean and jerk by lifting 41921 b. His previous best was 416 Mb. Schemansky also bettered the world heavy-weight record for the total. His press, snatch, and jerk together amounted to 107011 b. Tile official record is 106111 b set by John Davis (United States) in 1951. Soviet Claim Mikhail Akopiantziv, of the Soviet Union, has bettered the world middleweight weight-lifting record for two hands clean and press, Tass, the Soviet news agency, claimed today. Competing at Erevan, capital of Armenia, Akopiantziv lifted 128 kilogrammes (2821 b beating by 500 grammes (lb) the record made in 1948 by K. Touny, of Egypt.
