CRITICISM OF “THE PRESS”
Sir, —A favourite practice among some people when beaten in an argument is to descend to a personal attack. This has happened several times with my letters. I shall refrain from such a reply, even though the use of the word “adult” prompts a different course. “Adult” would deny me the right of criticising the use of articles obviously designed to stir up trouble in the world. If articles countering these fairy tales were published, it would not be so bad, but they are rejfused. For instance, some years ago the -work of Rewi Alley was mentioned frequently in the daily papers, but now that it is found that he agrees with the new government of China, no paper will publish his articles. I would remind “Adult” that the last war was fought to get rid of Fascism, but it has not yet been exterminated.— Yours, etc., p J A October 3, 1954.
