OCEAN SPRAY II CHOSEN IN MAIN EVENT “The Press" Special Service

Mr E. Montgomery and his trainer, D. J. Arnott, have the chance to win their

second consecutive major handicap with Ocean Spray 11, in the £l7OO Ralph Somers Memorial Cup, one mile and three furlongs, at Te Aroha tomorrow. This event will be the first leg of the double and the main attraction at the Te Aroha Jockey Club’s spring meeting. At _ hls last start. Ocean Spray II won the Coronation Handicap, at Avcndale, on September 11. He galloped pleasingly 2 ve L J lll1 ® on Thursday, and looks to be right at his best. Ocean Spray II has 7-10, so he is well enough placed in the handicap for a further success. His strongest opponents are expected to be Sjnoke Box (from Exlerslie) and two Takanini horses, Clarrie and Arawa. Ocean Spray II is trained at Te Aroha.

Smoke Box will be bracketed with Akbar. This pair galloped impressively ovdr seven furlongs on Thursday. Arawa also acquitted himself well while working during the week. The fields are excellent. On bine strength of fast sprints in training, ana a good win at Te Aroha over the same distance at this time last year, Nereis * P ro bably be the favourite in the Electric Handicap.
