TANGIWAI RAIL DISASTER

WIDOW OF VICTIM SUES CROWN CLAIM LODGED FOR £BOOO (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 1. A claim for £BOOO damages has been filed against the Crown by Dorothy Alice Redman, of Taihape, widow of Lancelot Redman, a railway fireman, who was killed in the Tangiwai railway disaster on December 24. The claim is in the nature of a test case. The plaintiff alleges negligence in various respects by the Crown. The claim has been filed with the Supreme Court at Wellington, and will be set down as a civil jury case, probably for hearing in November or early December.
