HEAVY WATER PROJECT
£6,000,000 PLANT ENVISAGED SPECIAL COMPANY TO BE FORMED (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 1. The eventual capital value of the combined heavy water and electricity generating plant .at Wairakei might be £6.000,000, said the Associate Minister of Finance Mr C. M. Bowdenj in the House of Representatives last evening. Mr Bowden gave this estimate during the second reading of the Finance Bill. The bill authorises the Crown to subscribe for shares in a company to be incorporated in New Zealand, of •which the principal original members will be the Crown, and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. Among the company’s objects will be the production of heavy water and the generation of electricity by the use of geotnermal steam. The bill was later put through all remaining stages, and passed.
