Major-General W. G. Gentry, Chief of the New Zealand General Staff, will visit Christchurch on Wednesday. During the day he will inspect Burnham Military Camp and national servicemen before returning to Wellington by steamer express in the evening.
Brigadier J. Conolly, commander of the Ist Infantry Brigade, will leave New Zealand this week on a fourmonth visit to the United States, Canada, and Britain. One of the two Territorial officers commanding brigades in the New Zealand Division,
Brigadier Conolly is headmaster of Dilworth School, Auckland. His overseas tour is on education business. Brigadier C. L. Pleasants, who commands the Northern Military District, will command the Ist Infantry Brigade during Brigadier Conolly's absence.— (P.A.)
The Ven. W. W. Averill, Archdeacon of Christchurch, and Mr J. B. Williams were appointed Church Property Trustees at a recent meeting of the standing committee of the Diocese of Christchurch.
Dr. H. N. Parton, the representative of Canterbury University College on the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Girls’ High School, tendered his resignation to a meeting of the board last evening. The chairman (Mr A. E. Caddick) paid a tribute to the work of Dr. Parton during his three years on the board. The Rev. C. O. Hailwood, of Nelson, president-elect of the New Zealand Methodist Conference, returned to Auckland by air yesterday from the congress of the World Council of Churches at Evanston.
