N.Z. Blankets Given To War Widows

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 24. The first of 100 pairs of finest quality New Zealand blankets sent to England by the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Acknowledgement of Debt to British Seamen Fund were presented to an elderly war widow by Dr. R. M. Campbell, the Acting-High Commissioner for New Zealand. The fund was established after World War I and relief grants totalling £147,974 have been given to disabled British seamen, their widows and orphans in cash grants and quarterly food parcels. A total of £128,901 has also been spent, in taking sons and daughters of killed or disabled seamen and airmen to New Zealand for training under the Flock House scheme. Today Dr. Campbell visited Mrs Mary Sheehan, aged 76, at her home in East Ham, London, to present the blankets. The other widows are to call at New Zealand House.
