CORSO AID TO PAKISTAN
LETTER OF THANKS - RECEIVED Reports of the floods in India and Pakistan can give little idea of the colossal tragedy of this event, says a statement from the council of organisations for Relief Services Overseas. A letter from the secretary of the East Pakistan Emergency Relief Coipcittee to CORSO said that was complete flood havoc in East Bengal, and Dacca was completely cut off by rail. Eight of the 17 districts had been seriously affected, and 7,000.000 persons had been victims of the flood. “At least 25 per cent, of the crops have been destroyed and this means that a similar percentage of the population will face famine this winter,”
said the letter. “We are using the much-needed drugs and vitamin capsules received from CORSO, and extend our heart-felt gratitude for your helpful relief supplies at a time of JSast Pakistan’s great distress.”
A recent meeting of CORSO Dominion executive granted £lOOO to the emergency relief committee in Dacfta, East Pakistan, and £lOOO to India, for flood relief. It was also decided to increase the allocation of milk powder to India by £2OOO, and raise the Pakistan allocation to £1750.
