MOTOR RACE AT AUCKLAND

PRINCE BIRABONGSE MAY COMPETE (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 27. Prince Birabongse of Siam—better known as the world-famous racing driver, B. Bira —is considered an almost certain starter in the Auckland Grand Prix at Ardmore on January 8. The board of control is completing negotiations with him. If he comes he will bring the latest Maseratti. Two other overseas drivers who will compete are Peter Whitehead and Tony Gaze. They will race factory Ferraris with new three-litre engines. Both men raced at Ardmore this year.

Prince Birabongse will be 38 this year. He was educated at Eton, took up racing in 1935, and soon established himself as a daring and expert driver. He is so small that the seat and controls of his cars have to be specially fitted. He has won some of the greatest world races.
