FRENCH CLUB’S EXAMINATIONS
SILVER CUP WON BY CHRIST’S COLLEGE There was a marked improvement in the standard of French at the yearly examinations of the French Club, said Mr H. Honore, the president of the club, at the annual prize-giving. Mrs A. Honore presented the clubs silver cup to Christ’s College, as the school which obtained the highest number of marks in the oral examinations. Mrs Honore presented the other prizes and awards as follows: — Senior Division (under 18 years of age). —W. P. Greenslade (Christ’s College) 1 and gold medal, Margaret E. Hornby (Girls’ High Schol) 2, J. A. Witbrock (Christ’s College) 3. Merit Certificates.—Passes with distinction: Dorothy M. Watt (Girls’ High School), Marie E. Scott (St. Margaret’s), E. D. Jones and P. J. Gordon (Boys’ High School), Elizabeth B. Allen (Rangi-ruru), D. G. Olds (Ashburton High*. School), Ngaio Francis (Avonside), Shona Hawker (Avonside), Rosita Holenburgh (St. Margaret’s), B. Suttdno (St. Andrew’s), and Bernadette Ellis (Sacred Heart). Passes: Esme V. Knight (Ashburton High School), Judith Hindin (Rangi-ruru), and Phyllis Eatwell (Christchurch West High School). Junior Division (over 14 and under 16 years of age).—Diana T. Jarman (Girls’ High School) 1 and bronze medal, Ann Diehl (Avonside Girls’ High Schol) 2, A. N. Russell and J. B. "Waldron (Christ’s College), equal, 3. Merit Certificates.—Passes with distinction: Joan P. Hopkins (Girls’ High School), J. Watson (St. Andrew’s), R. B. Thomson (Boys’ High School), G. W. Bryant (Ashburton High School), J. D.
