LOCAL BODY LOANS
COMMITTEE ALTERS BILL Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 27 Complaints that the Local Government Loans Board Amendment Bill placed too much power in the hands of the Secretary of the Treasury to vary or cancel the terms of loans approved by the Local Government Loans Board have been met by an amendment made to the bill by the Local Bills Committee. As the bill was originally drafted, the Secretary of the Treasury could or cancel on his own volition, but the amendment provides that can be done only at the request of the local body concerned. The committee’s amendment was reported back to the House of Representatives today.
