HOSPITAL FEES

INCREASES PROPOSED BY BOARD Subject to ratification by the Minister of Health (Mr J. R. Marshall), increased charges for patients at the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s institutions have been approved by the board. The new daily rates—which apply only to patients not eligible for social security benefits—will be: General inpatients, £2 18s (comSared with £2 10s at present); infecous cases (Burwood Hospital), £2 10s (£2); tuberculosis cases (Sanatorium), £1 16s (£1 10s). The recommended new charges were decided on after the Director-General of Health (Dr. J. Cairney) had requested the board to review its charges “to bring the rates concerned more in line with actual costs, as disclosed by the latest accounts.”
