STOCK EXCHANGES RIGHTS AGAIN HEAVILY TRADED Active trading was again evident on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Losses were offset by gains, which were of equal proportions. Rights continued to be the centre of attraction, heavy turnovers being recorded in Broken Hills and Aulsebrook’s issues. Eight parcels of Broken Hills changed hands at the fractionally improved price of 6s Bd, and more were on offer at the same price, with buyers limiting their offers to 6s 7d. The company’s shares sold unchanged at 3£s. and closing quotations were 32s lid and 33s 2d respectively. More than 2003 Aulsebrook rights sold at the steady price of 2s, but the most buyers would offer late in the afternoon was Is lid. Ross and Glendining rights continued to weaken with sales on’change at 6s, and a reported sale unchanged at 6s 3d—buying bids fell another 3d at the close to 5s 9d, against sellers at 6s. Woolworth’s rights continued to be in steady demand, two parcels changing hands at the firm price of 10s 7d, with dosing quotations, however, wide at 10s 6d and 10s 9d respectively. Chain store shares were generally steady in sales and quotations. A feature of the day was the sharp drop in Christchurch Gas to business and unsupported sellers at 19s.
