HORNBY WATER SUPPLY
LOAN TO BE SOUGHT FOR NEW SCHEME
Progrres Is being made in the planning of a water supply for Hornby and Islington. The area has been surveyed by engineers, and the next stage will be for the Paparua County Council, which is preparing the scheme, to apply to the Local, Government Loans Board for permission to raise a loan, and to call for objections to the scheme.
Sockburn will come under a separate scheme, if the residents wish. This scheme is not as advanced as the other .
The scheme for Islington and Hornby is estimated to cost about £BO,OOO, and the loan which the Paparua council will seek will be for about this amount. The council recently discussed the installation of a high-pressure water scheme into a State housing block in Hornby. At its last meeting the council gave technical approval to the Housing Department’s scheme, and agreed to the department's offer to take over the scheme at cost and incorporate it in the main water plan when the council puts in its over-all scheme for Hornby and Islington. The block concerned, between Gilberthorpe’s and Hei Hei roads, in Hornby, will eventually provide sites for 800 houses. The first stage of the Housing Department’s plans, of 200 houses, is expected to be well under way in the next 18 months. . The development of the area is just starting; There is already a fair amount of group building taking Place there, together with State housing and private building.
