SWEENY BEATEN BY PALMER (N.Z. Press Association-J-CopyTight) (R f c - I E 3O pro ) NEW YORK, Aug. 29. Arnold Palmer, aged 24, of CleveK nd i st ?ged a brilliant come-back on th^,? nal . lB holes yesterday to beat the millionaire, Robert Sweeny, and win the United States national amateur golf championship, 1 up. . Behind most of the day after watching the stylish Sweeny sink three successive putts of 20 to 38 feet on opening holes, Palmer, holding on doggedly, went ahead for the first time on the thirty-second hole and clinched the match on the final green. ..Sweeny, tall, 43-year-old winner of the British amateur 17 years ago, saw his impeccable game deteriorate in the afternoon, apparently as the result of sheer exhaustion after the week-long tournament.
