DRIVER MAKES FINE RECOVERY
ACCIDENT IN RACE AT ADDINGTON
__'Die West Eyreton owner-trainer, F. G k Holmes, probably saved serious trouble in ’ foe race, and his horse, Adorian, from injury in the Farewell Handicap at Addington on Saturday. Before the end of two furlongs, Paia Royal put a foot through a wheel of Adorian’s sulky, and in the ensuing mix-up Johnny Globe turned a complete somersault. Holmes was tossed from his seat, but he retained the reins. He was dragged along foe ground for about 70 yards before he was able to seize foe back of foe sulky and stop Adorian. Johnny Globe, a hot favourite,- fell heavily, but he suffered no serious Injury. When hehad struggled to his feet he stood rail until his owner-driver, D. G. Nyhan, who had been thrown several feet away, came up to him and itotangled some broken gear. were two other accidents during *be day, but neither was serious. ;Soon after foe start of the Queen Mary HandiMarie ' whlch carried 35,779 8s tickets in a pool of £85,798 on foe first leg of foe double, met trouble and fell heavily. Fair Annette and Crafty Guy going over foe top of her. Fair Annette was the 3. 2 favourite. An inquiry was held Into fols incident, and also foe one in the Farewell Handicap, but both were found to be accidental. X Moray stood on the mark in the Metropolitan Stakes and Local Light ran into b“ drtrer . T. Webster. Local Light, without his driver, raced towards the rear of the field, but he did not cause any serious interference to any other horse.
