TOWN BEATS COUNTRY IN FAST GAME Town Colts, fielding a much more polished back line, outplayed Country Colts in a curtain-raiser to the Ranfurly Shield match on Saturday, and won by 20 points (a goal from a try, three tires, ana two penalty goals) to 6 (a try and a penalty goal). After the first 10 minutes fast and entertaining Rugby was played. Town failed to settle down until well into the first spell. Once F. Tavai and M. Atiken, at half-back and first fiveeighths, found each other, however, the line began moving with speed. The Country line never appeared likey- to

score. . The Country .pack wilted in the second spell, and towards the end of the game Town was getting a feast of the ball from all departments. * The outstanding player on the field was P. Hutchinson, at centre for Town. He carved huge holes in the Country defences with changes of direction and pace. G. Pilkington, on the right wing, scored two good tries for Town, and K. M. Burnett, at full-back, was reliable. The best of the Country backs were J. Williamson, at half-back, and J. Woods. They both attempted to give thrust to the attack. H. Mitchell,, at full-back, was sound. , The Town forwards were well led by R. Cochrane, R. Wells, B. Garlick, and J. Le Lievre, and for Country, R. Moffat did more than his share of work in the tight and on cover defence. He was best supported by A. Loffhagen, P. Smith, and T. Carlyn. . . „ „„ For Town tries were scored by G. Pilkington (2), M. Radwdrd, and Tavai. Burnett kicked two penalty goals and converted dhe try. Country's points came from a try by B. McClintock and a penalty goal by Woods. \ Mr V. C. Empson was referee. Under 17 Match In an under 17 grade match between High School Old Boys and Christchurch, Christchurch won by 15 points to 0. For Christchurch tries were scored by J. Taylor (2), A- Krisnic, J. Roberts, and D. Menzies. Mr R. Johnson was referee.
