VIEWS OF DELEGATES CHALLENGED

(Rec. 8 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 25. Mr ' Alvin Bentley, a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, today invited Communist Hungary’s delegates to the Assembly of the World Council of Churches to support under oath before his Congressional sub-committee their claims that the Communists do not control religion in Hungary. Mr Bentley, chairman of a House sub-committee investigating communist aggression, said statements by the Hungarians at the assembly, now taking place at Evanston, Illinois, were in “direct conflict with testimony taken, and pending before, this committee.”

He had sent a telegram to Bishop Albert Bereczky, head of the Hungarian delegation, inviting the bishop and the fotfr members of his delegation to appear at a sub-committee hearing. Visas granted to the Hungarians by the State Department for their visit to the United States restrict them to the scene of the church meeting. Mr Bentley said statements by the Hungarian churchmen, and testimony before the ( sub-committee, were in direct conflict.

STOCK EXCHANGE STRIKE

(Bee. 11 p.m ) TOKYO, August 28. Employees of the Osaka stock exchange in central Japan went out on an indefinite strike today for higher wages ansi in protest against “feudal conditions.” They staged a 24-hour strike yesterday, but decided to extend it indefinitely. Outside the stock exchange the strikers out up notices saying they were striking “to break up the feudalistic system still deeply rooted in the stock exchange world.”
