KOHN SHIELD

OTAGO TRAMWAYMEN BEAT AUCKLAND The 1954 competition for the Kohn Shield among representatives of the Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Wellington tramwaymen was concluded on the south ground at Lancaster Park yesterday, when Otago beat Auckland in the final by 21, points to 0. At the end of the first spell, when Otago, playing against the wind, had put on five points, the Otago backs came into action and bustled the Auckland team into making grave mistakes in handling and kicking. ' For Otago, tries were scored by F. McKay, B. Harwood, K. Craig (2), and E. Carradus, two of which were converted by J. Sinclair and one by Carradus. Mr W. Fright was referee. In the curtain-raiser between Christchurch and Wellington, the game was drawn, penalty goals being kicked by B. Hodge (Christchurch) and J. Porter (Wellington). Mr D. F. Johnson was referee.
