SABOTAGE IN GUIANA
Members Of Party Detained (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) GEORGETOWN, August 21. The Governor of British Guiana, Sir Alfred Savage, signed an order yesterday detaining indefinitely nine members of the People’s Progressive Party, including Outdit Jagan, a brother of the party leader. Dr. Cheddi Jagan. The action followed a series of acts of sabotage and the discovery of explosives in Berbice County, recently. • An official communique said: “The police are now in possession of information establishing the existence of an extremist gang organised with the object of committing sabotage for political ends. Information has also been obtained regarding various acts of sabotage which were planned by the gang.” The communique referred to the dynamiting of .the Blairmont Police Station, in Berbice County, a pumping station and a statue of Queen Victoria. The Georgetown police found 32 sticks of gelignite, a detonator and a pamphlet on the use of explosives in the Berbice County.
