EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO CHRISTCHURCH

PARTY OF 26 CHILDREN FROM ROTHERHAM An exciting and informative educational visit to Christchurch is at present being undertaken by a party of 26 senior pupils from the Rotherham School, under their headmaster (Mr G. Maister). Yesterday the children left Rotherham in a bus and private cars early in the morning, to arrive in Christchurch in time for a visit to the Chief Post Office and its many departments. This was followed by visits to an electrical goods factory and “The Press” office.

Today’s programme includes visits to the Canterbury Museum, a brush factory, the Royal New 1 Zealand Air Force station, Wigram, and. the Disabled Servicemen’s League. However, the highlights will come tomorrow with a launch trip on the Lyttelton harbour—particularly attractive because some of the children have not seen a ship and others have not been on a train—and attendance at the Ranfurly Shield match at Lancaster Park.

The children, who are billeted with friends in Christchurch, will return to Rotherham on Saturday evening or Sunday. They will later undertake project work for social studies. Mr Maister said yesterday' that he was particularly grateful for the way in which staffs at places visited had shown the children round and given explanations.
