DUNEDIN SALE OF CRUTCHINGS

HARDENING TENDENCY (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN. August 12. There was a good catalogue of crossbred crutchings. but fleece wool was inclined to be discoloured and showing a fair amount of seed, at the combined Dunedin-InvercargiH wool and crutching sale today. Top price for the sale was 60Jd for one line of crutchings and for other betterclass lines values ranged from 54d to 57jd. Good to average class brought 40d to 49d, and stained and seedy lots 34d to 39. There was a total of 9500 bales of crutchings, fleece, and straggler wool and oddments in the sale compared with the October auction. Prices for all the better class crossbred crutchings were on par, but less attractive lines did not bring such good values. Considering the condition of the fleece wool, prices were fairly good. Poorer sorts, however, had a slower sale. There was a good representation of buyers and bidding was bright and, at times, lively for the stronger-class Crutchings. The same interest was not shown in the finer wools, but this could probably be attributed to the class and condition. Competition from overseas was prominent, and these buyers secured the bulk of the catalogues. In the early stages local buyers appeared to be inactive. and Bradford buyers were mainly' in evidence. The sale concluded at 1.30 p.m. with almost a full clearance. Official Report The offering of crutchings waft of good colour and style, states the official report issued by the Dunedin Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Commission. Prices showed a hardening tendency on the recent northern crutching sales, and must be considered as a satisfactory indication for a good opening main sale on October 27. Values were firm compared with the prices for crutchings at this time last year. The Invercargill offering was sold before the Dunedin catalogue, states the report.
