NEW ZEALANDER IN AUSTRALIAN ARMY

FORMER INSTRUCTOR AT DUNTROON A former New Zealand soldier with ■ fine record of service with the Australian Army left Harewood by DC-6 airliner yesterday on his return to Australia. He is Major D. L. Rouse who is now G.S.O.n in the Directorate of Infantry at Australian Army Head- • quarters, Melbourne. Major Rouse is well known to New Zealanders who trained at the Royal Military College at Duntroon in the early years of World War 11. He was then an instructor at the college. Major Rouse’s home town is Nelson. He was a member of the New Zealand Army permanent staff until 1937, when he went to Australia. In New Guinea during the war, he served as a platoon commander with the 17th Infantry Brigade, the formation frequently referred to by "Tokyo Rose” in her war-time broadcasts from Japan. After the war, Major Rouse served for a time as a staff captain in the Northern Territory of Australia; as a general staff officer at the school of infantry at Seymour in Victoria: and as an instructor at the School of Tactics and Administration in Victoria. He attended the Australian Staff College at Queenscliff in 1952. Since then, he has been with the Directorate of Infantry.
