MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
TWO WOMEN ON TRIAL AT AUCKLAND (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 29. Two women stood trial in the Supreme Court today on a joint count of unlawfully killing the daughter of one of them, thereby committing manslaughter. The accused are Esma Neta Morrison, aged 47, a manageress, of Dargaville. and Gladys May Duggan, aged 37, of Auckland. The Crown alleges that Morrison's daughter, Paloma Helene Morrison, aged 27, single, died at Duggan's home on May 2, after an attempt to procure an abortion. ‘ The hearing is before Mr Justice North and a jury, Mr Graham Speight appears for the Crown. Mr M. Robinson for Duggan, and Mr Trevor Henry, with mm Mr R. H. Duhcan. for Morrison. The trial will be continued tomorrow.
